Nike establishes a new country that is bigger than 150 other countries in the world

Here’s a campaign well worth checking out – Corinthians, a Brazilian football club, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010. Nike decided to give the club’s more than 30 million fans a gift that would measure up: a country.
Republica Popular do Corinthians was established. And to guarantee the recognition of Republica Popular do Corinthians as a country, their agency F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi Sao Paulo developed everything a nation has: a coat of arms, documents, legislation, a flag, currency, heroes and an embassy. Even a president was appointed.

nice
That’s one hell of a big idea. Nice.
Genius-love it
great idea, but i couldn’t watch all of the campaign tape. that saccharine, patronising over-emphatic and peculiarly US American voice over style makes my eye twitch.
Nike making ‘political donations’?!
Meh, NOW you tell me…
Wow. What an amazing idea.
Brazil is great.
Yes there are more Corinthian fans than Australians… but they are soccer fans and therefore gay. How many Swannies fans in Brazil? None? Pathetic!
5:55 you’re a douche
Yet another great campaign to show how sports-related marketing should be done. Great theatre and a brand, fresh and interesting take on the unique culture of the fans.
Seems there are too many sports brands who simply say ‘we understand your passion’ rather than creating a communication product which fans get embrace as their own.
I’m sure, and apologies for butchering the brand line, Corinthians fans thought “You just get me”
I remember a bunch of guys at Leo Burnett Sydney had the exact same idea for Heineken. Like 5 years ago. Verbatim. Shame. They were so far ahead of their time.
