‘Jiro Dreams of Sushi’ has secured two screenings at this year’s Sydney Film Festival, premiering this Wednesday 15th June at 6pm and screening again on Thursday 16th June at 12pm.

The film documents the life of 85 year-old Jiro Ono, the world’s oldest three-star Michelin master chef who dreams of creating the ultimate morsels of perfection.

Hollywood Reporter says: “It’s torture to watch Jiro Dreams of Sushi if you have an empty stomach. David Gelb’s documentary on Jiro Ono is a paean to perfectionism and a crafty bit of food porn.”

“This is a film that is not only about the art of sushi, but also about family, succession, and tradition. Jiro’s message about the value of hard work, patience and vision applies not only to sushi, but also to any form of creation,” says Gelb.

Variety magazine describes it as an “intrinsically compelling hymn to craftsmanship and taste in every sense”.

Located in Ginza, Tokyo, Jiro Ono’s basement restaurant (Sukiyabashi Jiro) is small, meticulous and seats just 10 guests. There’s no menu, credit cards are not allowed, and plate layouts are changed for left-handed customers. Watch the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi1jxRanimU
