Getty Images ‘Grab 2011’ national photographic competition winners announced

cutler.jpgThe winning images in the Getty Images ‘Grab 2011’ national photography competition have been announced.

Rachel Cutler from the Sunshine Coast, Qld, took home the top prize for immortalising an image of two friends play fighting in a hammock.  Her prize is a Nikon D700 DSLR & AF-S 85mm f1.4 lens, worth over $5,000. Cutler will also become a contributor to the Getty Images Flickr Collection.

The Grab competition challenged photographers from across the country to capture a snapshot of everyday Australian life by submitting their visual interpretations of family, friendship and community.

3800 entries were received which were narrowed down to a final 20 that are on display at a free public exhibition at the Showcase gallery, 85 William Street, Sydney.  The exhibition runs from today until Saturday.  They can also be viewed can also be viewed at the Getty Images Facebook page

The judging panel consisted of industry-leading photographers and creatives including Stuart Hannagan, director of photography APAC and vice president of Australasia, Getty Images and Matt Batten, creative director, Wunderman. 

tipple.jpgsulthoni.jpgBronte (NSW) resident Mark Tipple’s underwater photograph of swimmers diving under a crashing wave came in a close second. Tipple will receive a Nikon D3100 twin lens kit (18-55mm VR + 55-200mm VR lenses).

The Guru’ by Alam Sulthoni from Canterbury (NSW)  was the fan favourite, with Facebook fans selecting the image of a boy observing a levitating guru as the winner of the People’s Choice Award and a brand new Nikon 1 camera.
