Jodie-Sangster-min-150x150.jpgLuke-Dale-150x150.jpgHow do you protect a brand? What are the steps in trademarking an idea? Where does tech fit into it? How au fait are you with the privacy laws? In today’s technologically driven world, it can be difficult to keep up with the ever-changing legal landscape and ways to protect one’s business, brand and ideas.

To help young marketers learn more about legal issues that can impact on their work, the South Australia 30Below community is holding a breakfast seminar this Thursday morning from 7:45am-9:00am with ADMA CEO Jodie Sangster (above, left) and Luke Dale (above, right), national head of intellectual property, technology and media, HWL Ebsworth Lawyers.

Sangster and Dale will provide an overview of the key regulatory issues marketers need to consider including Australia’s privacy laws, copyright, trademarks, patents, designs and domain names.

Says Sangster: “This event will provide marketers and advertisers with practical tips on how to protect their great ideas and pitfalls to avoid. It’s also a refresher on the privacy laws which everyone  in the industry needs to understand.”

The breakfast will be held at HWL Ebsworth Lawyers, Level 21, Westpac House, 91 King William Street, Adelaide. Time: 7.45am-9.00am. Cost: $25 for breakfast and beverages.

Sangster is the CEO of the Association for Data-driven Marketing and Advertising (ADMA) and the Institute of Analytics Professionals of Australia. She also chairs the GlobalDMA, a consortium of 27 marketing associations that champion responsible marketing. As a lawyer, she has shaped marketing legislation to protect responsible marketing in Australia and overseas, and champions global marketing education and research initiatives.

Dale specialises in intellectual property law, focusing on brand protection, tech law, media and entertainment law and trade practice issues including franchising, competition and consumer protection. He manages trademark portfolios for large corporate clients and helps to protect brands in Australia and overseas. Dale previously worked in London as an in-house lawyer for Nestle and as head of Legal and business affairs for an international television production company.
