Tony Williams to join 303 as head of art
Tony Williams is retuning to Perth in November to join 303 as Head of Art. The artdirector who began his career at Vinten Browning and JDA in Perth hasbeen working for the past six years in Japan, since April 2009 as thecreative director of Apple Inc. in Tokyo.
Since leaving Perth Williams has worked in Singapore for a variety of agencies there, including BBH Singapore. He set up his own agency in Tokyo before eventually selling to Saatchi & Saatchi and becoming their ECD.
“His main focus will be the Perth office but like all our creatives he’ll work on the occasional Sydney project,” said 303’s Lindsay Medalia. “As well as an art director he is also a film director and a great digital creative – we’re happy as to have him.”

Before that he was the iconic New Zealand born commercials director of such classics as BASF ‘Dear John’ and Toyota ‘Bugger’, but way back before that – in the late ’60’s – he was a leading figure in jazz, being the drummer on Miles Davis’s seminal jazz-rock fusion album ‘Bitches Brew’ before forming his own band The Tony Williams Lifetime, whose first album ‘Believe It’ introduced a stunned world to the guitar pyrotechnics of Alan Holdsworth.
A worthy addition indeed.
Thought he’d never leave tokyo. Good guy, Tony is. Though, wondering how that transition will be from tokyo to perth> A bit different, eh?
