ACRApost-banner.jpgEntries are open for this year’s Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs), which will be held for the first time at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane on October 12.

The ACRAs celebrate their 25th year in 2013 and promise to be a highlight of the radio industry’s yearly calendar with the Awards attracting the industry’s stars, personalities and media executives from around Australia.

Chief executive officer of Commercial Radio Australia, Joan Warner said the industry was looking forward to holding the event in Brisbane.

Says Warner: “This will be the inaugural ACRAs in Brisbane which is very exciting and a great way to celebrate our 25th year.”

A new category has been introduced this year – Best Marketing Campaign. This award will recognise the achievements in the creation of a multiplatform campaign promoting a station, network or on-air personality.

Says Warner: “Marketing a station, network or personality has become an integral part of what radio does so we thought it was necessary to recognize the importance of good marketing with a gong.”

Organised by Commercial Radio Australia, on behalf of the radio industry, the national Awards include 34 categories, which cover all areas of radio broadcasting including news, talk, sport, music and entertainment. The ACRAs are peer judged with judging panels comprised of industry members. Winners are announced in each category across three areas: metropolitan, provincial and country commercial radio stations.

Winners from last year’s Awards include WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda, 2GB’s Ray Hadley, the Today Network’s Kyle and Jackie O Show, Triple M Brisbane’s Emma Blackwood and 3AW’s Neil Mitchell. Last year’s ACRAs were held in Sydney and co-hosted by businesswoman and TV host, Sharon Osbourne.

Ms Warner said a feature of the Awards is the Hall of Fame, which acknowledges a lifelong commitment to the Australian radio industry. Last year’s inductee was one of radio’s most respected executives, Graham Mott, and previous inductees have included Derryn Hinch, Neil Mitchell, Frank Hyde, Rod Muir, John Laws, Bob Rogers and Paul Thompson. Hall of Fame recipients are nominated by industry colleagues and decided by a high level judging committee.

Entries for this year’s Awards close on Friday May 24.
