“He has been eager to get back into an international agency for a while now. ”
Why?
Nice hire. Skip’s a top bloke.
No way someone like Skip would move somewhere like McCanns just to be Senior Writer. He’ll obviously be ECD there before long.
Good luck to him.
Do they still stab you in the front over there?
Don’t know the guy, but it’s good to see companies hiring in this purported economic storm.
Skip, well done…
Shame Love didn’t work out even tho you did turn that place around remarkably. Hope they’re paying you a mint at McCann,
skip you legend, bad move by LOVE, smart move by McCann.
Nice one McCann.
Can any agency hire someone outside this tiny industry?
A staggeringly brave move by the incumbent ECD – bit like Tim Green from GPY&R Brisbane hiring Piet Human a few months ago – look what happened there. For the record, Scot tand Piet are very good at their jobs.
Congrats Skipton. Your Sean Connery impression must have got you over the line. Well done mate.
Expect redundancies at McCanns.
Microsoft are cutting back, there has been 5,000 redundancies in the U.K alone – http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2009/jan/22/microsoft-job-cuts-redundancy
I’m sure their Australian office will want to be seen doing the same thing, which means their ad budget will get cut, which will mean staff at McCanns will get fired/made redundant.
Don’t think McCanns actually have any other clients to speak of.
Well done Skip, it’s a great place, you’ll love it.
One of the nicest, smartest blokes around. A real leader and loved by creatives. Unfortunately he wears skin tight tshirts on a daily basis, but hey, nobody’s perfect.

Scot is one of the most decent, genuine, funny and talented people you could ever hope to meet.
I have had the privilege of working with him twice in my career.
Clever business move McCanns.
Marrianne
We miss you Scotty!
Cool. Skip obviously still has the fire in the belly to do great work. Good on him.
If you’re a star like Skip and you’re CD at a decent shop like LOVE, surely you don’t move to a creative carcas like McCanns to become senior writer.
Maybe there’s more to this soon…
What’s happened to Jonny Browne and Mike Thomas?
GPYR/Brisbane appointed co CD’s I hear.
Good on you Skip and good luck
Congratulations on getting a gig at Singos…er…McCanns.
Way to go mate! Look forward to seeing the elf on William Street…
Do pity the poor McCann buggers though, no-one should be exposed to your spandex cycling shorts every morning!
s
Skip, the Angry man. Angry as hell, Mad as hell Like Clifty. But doesn’t he love his sausages? Congrats Mr Mom.
Yikes, If this is the future of ad agency websites then I’m getting out now.
Get your sick bag ready people

11:14am – GPYR Brisbane are a laughing stock. Who cares?
Good to see…. jobs still around for these veterans.
When’s the last time McCanns won an award?
I’m with you 9.37am – what happened to Mike Thomas – does anyone know?
Skipton Mallet … gizza job!
Re Mike Thomas: McCanns MD Victoria Carro may well have done what 7:36pm was on about in between drafting those superlative columns for B&T lauding the eDM as the ultimate form of advertising.
Skip at McCanns will be like Brett Lee opening the bowling for Wagga Wagga 3rds.
Great stuff Scott…you added outstanding creativity at Love and you’ll do the same at McCann.
Great hire. Best of luck to you Scot.
Unfortunately he wont because they wouldnt know a good ad if it hit them up the face
Well done Skip,
There’s a whole new group of people you can show your bike shorts off to.
cheers, Coxy
Good work Scot.
Its a awesome place McCann’s.
Obviously there are some quite bitter ageing creatives out there that haven’t been able to get clients on board with old ideas.
Don’t worry about the shorts.
Management has a No Shorts policy at McCann.
Good luck, Scot.
You’ll need it.
Fuck, times are tough!
It pisses me off that these boring as batshit uncreative agencies use economic downturns as an excuse to nab top talent like Skip.
Exploitation!
Skip. Just make sure you take your ‘Annual run like a girl marathon’ cartoon with you.
All i can say, is what a lucky guy to be working with Dave Heytman, a great creative!
This blog has gone to the dogs. Or fairies. Pre-Nobby’s lecture, people would have been utterly shocked over this; great guy and a great creative going to a creative carcas that hasn’t won an award since Bob Hawke was in power.
Instead, all we’ve got is palsy comments about bike shorts.
3:50pm obviously works at McCanns. What is it, 3:50pm, that makes them “awesome”? How can it be an awesome place if they never do any good work. Number of entries at AWARD last year – ZERO.
7:55 I think 3:50 means there’s a great bunch of guys there. Awards are good but there’s more to life. Oh yeah, you wouldn’t get that as you’re a wanker
“McCanns Sydney. We’re not flash at winning awards but we’re a great bunch of guys.”
G’luck Skip…Seaniebee
I love the bike shorts. Lucky McCann.
Steve, that’s even better than ‘Truth Well Told’.
Good on you Skip, I hope you rort them good.
Used to be the place, now it’s nothing! Even with all 200 x “Management Supremo’s” x
