APN Outdoor launches Sydney’s first-ever large format roadside digital billboard in Kings Cross
APN Outdoor has secured approval for Sydney’s first-ever large format, roadside digital billboard in the CBD. Sitting prominently in the iconic Kings Cross precinct at the Darlinghurst intersection on William St, the digital billboard will be seen by over 2.8 million people each month.
This landmark decision was the result of months of planning and negotiating by APN Outdoor’s digital media team including strategic commercial director, Bronwyn Clementson.
APN Outdoor’s general manager of digital media, Damien Rath, explains the significance of this development.
Says Rath: “Approval of the Kings Cross digital billboard represents a great milestone for our valued clients as well as demonstrating our continued leadership and innovation of digital across Australia by delivering this first to market for Sydney.”
In keeping with current Roads and Maritime Services’ policy, the digital billboard will rotate through advertisements every 45 seconds. This flexibility gives advertisers the opportunity to tailor their campaign message with effective day-parting to their audiences.
Great care was taken when selecting the site for the large format digital billboard. The right blend of visual prominence of the site was imperative, so advertisers can connect successfully with their target audiences, but not at the cost of the urban landscape. APN Outdoor worked with architects Kann Finch on the site’s design to achieve the highest level of architectural innovation for the Billboard.
A feature of APN Outdoor’s digital policy with the new digital billboard will also include a component of community messaging for the Sydney City Council, promoting festivals, events and news updates for the benefit of local residents of Kings Cross and Darlinghurst.
The installation of the roadside digital billboard is expected for completion later this year and will embrace world leading technology for this type of LED display, including high resolution imagery. The race is now on to see which prestigious advertisers will be the first to secure coverage on Sydney’s first ever large format, roadside digital billboard.

The article is somewhat misleading to the uneducated. There is already a Large format roadside digital billboard in Sydney. It’s on O’Riordan Street as you get toward the airport. Nice try APN
