Aussie twits complete 4320LA.com challenge
About 11am Sydney time today, three exhausted Aussie twits completed the 4320LA.com challenge to tweet every minute for three straight days in LA to promote V Australia’s short breaks in LA.
Ben Smith and Ben Akers, the creative team at Droga5 Sydney that created the online promotion, watched the three contestants survive live tattooing, waxing, in-fighting and insomnia to pull off the stunt, which was picked up by Channel 9’s Today Show on Thursday and has been featured on local media in the states too.
The site has been so successful that the team are now preparing 4320.syd.com. The three days’ antics were filmed and will be launched as advertising content, as well as forming an inflight show for Virgin Airlines.

Nice one. It’s refreshing to see companies using Twitter in an innovative way to create some hype.
The reports that the participants ‘survived insomnia’ could probably be explained by looking at the terms and conditions in which it stipulated that each participant was required to sleep for a minimum of 6 hours per day (24 hours) which when you consider that the guys were both jetlagged and being given a red carpet tour of LA, would have made sleep practically impossible.
Quite looking forward to seeing how the footage is used and put together.
Any figures on how many people actually followed them on twitter though?
Cool idea. Just checked out the site. Looks like they got up to some funny sh*t
Remove the twitter aspect and you’ve got an idea that’s been done many, many times.
more like twats
This reeks of boring
Nice site design, the content however is just not engaging enough. It needed more photos of the antics in LA to accompany the dialogue.
Bob,
Brilliant point. Brilliant.
Insightful, genius.
How’s the cure for aids coming along?
Clever way to promote the flights.
Just having a dump. Unreal.
5:01. Isn’t that the point? – to tweet every minute, so there’s obviously going to be the ‘brushing my teeth, using my fingers, talking with my mouth’ posts.
awesome
Well done the Twis anddon’t lets forget the design team.
Brilliant design.. really?
So, you’ve got these 140 character text messages, one every minute – and what do you do? yeah!! Let’s put it all into a great big flash site that’s really slow to navigate through!!
If it takes you longer to read the tweets, than it does to send them… then I’m sorry but you have a bad design.
I love playing “Spot the agency post” on the blog, but this one makes it too easy.
And for anyone that likes to play along at home, here are the tell-tale signs to look out for.
Agencies are the first ones to know that their post is up, so look for early comments such as, ‘cool idea’, ‘awesome’, and ‘it made me go to the site’. Agencies will try and kick-start momentum in their favour and hopefully sway people who can’t form their own opinions.
The retaliatory post. Creatives are a fragile bunch and we can’t help when someone slags off our work to defend it by having a go at the slagger in question. Generally we’ll fall back on the “enjoy working on your DM brochure”, or, “How’s AWARD school going?” Occasionally we’ll get more creative or insulting, depending on the level of hurt inflicted on us, via our work.
Also be on the lookout for the “I don’t work there but…”. A thinly veiled agency positive comment usually follows.
Don’t feel bad Droga lads, we all do it.
A hell of a twitter leaving other airline campaigns in its jet stream. Nice one.

Actually one of the posts here had a good point.
Every time I’ve checked out Droga sydney work, the server is extremely slow.
Not a nasty comment, just it would pay to upgrade to something a bit meatier given how heavy duty your web content stuff is.
People get pissed off when they wait 20 seconds for the virgin music thing you had and realise they can bittorrent stuff faster.
OK, 5:20, you’ve got us! Now get back to that DL flyer coupon. Deadline’s looming.
Great campaign – think you need a second 3 day promotion and take 3 girls, with me being one of them 🙂 ?
I don’t work at Droga5 but this is the best idea I have ever seen.
Who built the site? It’s great.
Using Twitter as a medium is really inspiring and I think all you people should take note and start using it too.
Hats of to all involved.
Can’t wait to see the story unfold.
How about 4320London?
