UPDATE: Since this story first appeared on the CB Blogs this morning, Brief Buddy is now officially the #1 ranked Reference App on the iTunes Australia charts.
The latest must have toy is The Brief Buddy – the app you keep handy for thought starters and inspiration when you’re trying to crack a brief.
Think of it as a creative partner in your pocket and it is available right now for iOS and Android.
Brief Buddy consists of a number of creative brief cracking techniques, these techniques are unique approaches in which you can solve a brief, and accompanying each of these techniques are also examples of creative executions that use the techniques.
Also featured in the app is a ‘Tips from the pros’ section; this section consists of short brief cracking tips written by top industry creatives.

Some brief cracking action happening there…
I bought this yesterday. A solid app, organised well with some helpful examples.
Yeah, this rocks. Cheers
Solid app, some of the pro tips are pretty funny.
All of these comments are obviously from 1st year RMIT students who have no idea how to crack a brief.
I’ll wait for the upgrade when it’s fully automated.
It’s handy to have on-hand at the cafe.
First four comments are from whoever posted this release. Too obvious guys!
The only thing this app cracks is boiled eggs.
I think it’s great. Just wish I’d thought of it.
Yeah great, seriously it makes my job easier. I mean now people all use d&ad books, youtube, google images, and phone apps (aka the same information pool) it allows me to produce work that stands out, thanks guys for fucking up my competitors 🙂
This isn’t great and I wouldn’t advise anyone to buy it. The tips offer no new insight and the pros aren’t pros. Even when given the chance to share inspirational work, the content is thin and nowhere near the top of this game. Very sorry to be negative, but I can see a lot of people idly downloading this and being disappointed. Missed opportunity. Pity.
They already have a free app for this, it’s called youtube.
I’m going to steal this idea and create a better version. Ha haaaa
When ‘painting by numbers’ comes to writinga brief instead of blood sweat and brains you know the business is fucked.
Are creatives meant to be happy about this? Great, so now anyone can come up with killer ideas on their phone. If someone picks up a Cannes gold with an idea generated on their phone, I bet they don’t mention it.
If you need this App, maybe you need to be in a different industry…
Jeez, you’re a mean-spirited and sanctimonious group. Pull your heads out of your own arses and try applauding someones endeavors for once. It’s really easy to rip into an idea when you’re hiding behind the moniker of “anonymous”.
All you jaded, soured snipers epitomise how low the industry has sunk. You’re an embarrassment!
@Roy, your comment was all about about bashing people who gave their honest opinion about this lame app. You didn’t even bother commenting about the app yourself, which leads me to assume you think it’s not even worth commenting on.
Another tool to aid the copycats. If you’re using this to crack briefs you should call yourself a re-creative because you’re creating nothing fresh and original.
Francis, you obviously don’t have much regard for detail, otherwise you would have seen that I commented on the app earlier. 10/10 for incompentance!
And further more, I can’t spell.
I want my money back. It’s full of shit. Since when did a middle weight planner become some ‘pro’ that people want advice from?
rebrand as a student assist app and you’ll be fine.
