British Airways pays tribute to those who first took flight — and follows in their footsteps via a 90 second commercial first aired on the BA Facebook page — a first for the brand. The Facebook page also includes a making of video.
The campaign, via agency BBH London, is one of the most expensive ever for British Airways and its first brand campaign in a decade.

The jet in the lower picture is a Vickers VC-10.
Note the clean under-wing design, without any engine pods.
IMHO, one of the most handsome airliners ever built.
Sometimes, there’s a creative thing to do, and the right thing to do. This is a ‘right thing’.
I can’t help but compare this ad, which adds stature and heritage to a trusted brand…and the recent efforts of Qantas.
Like it or not, Bad PR about the Irishman’s $5m salary, the union unrest, the disenfranchised staff, and the move to off-shore servicing to reduce costs are all pieces of brand communication. And they’re leaving a bitter taste.
Qantas heritage is every bit as impressive as BA’s. They we’re our lifeline to the world for a bloody long time. I still remember treasuring a little flying kangaroo bag my father bought for me on a business trip decades ago. Those emotional connections do count for something. They’re the things that create a brand preference…or better still a sense of loyalty.
Cutting costs, shedding staff, paying yourself a fortune and residing over the demise of an icon…well…let’s just say a heritage in cut price airlines is coming to the fore.
and as for Mr Pullen…
Frankly, it’s time for the Qantas board to step in.
They we’re, 11:17? Surely not.
Unfortunate not understanding a brands DNA. Does have it’s downside. It seems the Irishman will learn the hard way.
Nicely spotted 9.14. It was also the choice of the rich and famous crossing the Atlantic before Concorde – to this day the only faster airliner. It’s still in service for the RAF as a refueller.
Classic BBH. And by that I mean it feels like advertising from 20 years ago (and that’s not a good thing).
The description said 90 seconds. Why did it feel like it dragged on for sooooo long?
