Cuba Gooding Jr. shows how to get your new iPhone excitement ‘just right’ via Emotive
Optus has teamed up with Oscar winning actor Cuba Gooding Jnr to showcase some of its latest mobile products in a series of online short videos via Emotive, Sydney.
The actor, famed for his roles in Jerry McGuire, Pearl Harbour and American Crime Story:
The People v. O. J. Simpson, is the star of two multimedia campaigns for Optus, titled Cuba Gooding Jnr’s guide to new phone excitement.
Says Ben White, managing director of marketing, Optus: “Optus is offering a lot of amazing mobile products and to celebrate the excitement our customers feel when they buy a new mobile, we thought it was fitting to ask one of the world’s most accomplished actors to act out some reactions our employees see.
“From the average person, to an Oscar winning actor, everyone goes a little crazy about getting their hands on a new mobile phone.”
In the series, Gooding Jr. goes through a range of emotions from running into the store and begging for the latest device to moonwalking his way to suavely secure the latest phone.
Says Gooding Jr: “I really enjoyed working with Optus to shoot this series. Optus gave me the creative freedom to really own the characters and create some fun content.”
This is the first time Optus has worked with Cuba Gooding Jnr with the campaign due to launch on 22 September 2017.

Just the right amount of good.
What a terrible set….
Watching this makes me want to punch myself in the face
Optus cleared out all their old marketing team so they could do this?
New phone feeling, anyone?
Because it sucks.
What is the name of the music playing in the background?

Track sounds like start of “As We Enter” by Nas & Damian Marley
I working at putting on more weight so I can match that style when I walk into Optus. So in vogue! Just hope I don’t get a swift kick up the back for damaging all the other phones.
What on earth is he saying in the ad where he moonwalks? I have no clue.
The tune was sampled by Nas and Damian Marley from an Ethiopian jazz group. Sooo cool. You can find it here https://www.whosampled.com/sample/23785/Nas-Damian-Marley-As-We-Enter-Mulatu-Astatke-Y%C3%A8gell%C3%A9-Tezeta/
