DB Breweries’ Export Dry ‘Bevan’ from Colenso BBDO named March Newspaper Ad of the Month
DB Breweries’ Export Dry Bevan from Colenso BBDO Auckland’s overnight hit series The Wine is Over has been named the March NAB Newspaper Ad of the Month.
“Everything had been considered,” said the judges. “It’s hard to get all the elements in – but they have, with an ad that’s eye-catching, nicely crafted, straight to the point, with humour that’s really clever.”
The judges were Adam Thompson (Saatchi & Saatchi NZ), Adam Barnes (Ogilvy Auckland), and Levi Slavin (Colenso BBDO, Auckland) – who abstained from judging.
The winning creative team receives $250 cash with their ad also sponsored into the 2013 Axis Awards by NAB; it will appear in the What’s New showcase in AdMedia and is a finalist in the 2011/12 $10,000 Newspaper Ad of Year competition – to be judged later this year.
Any ad that’s run in any newspaper around the country is eligible to enter the Ad of the Month competition (including entries from Australian agencies), entry is free and each month’s winner gets a cash prize of $250 and is eligible for the Ad of the Year prize of $10,000.
There are just two months left to go in this year’s competition so the NAB is urging creatives to email their best newspaper ads to kirsty@nabs.co.nz.

I really love that headline. Didn’t need copy. Really funny. Nice work.
The copy is dope though.
Best copy in ages.
In that photograph Bevan is doing a very creditable impression of Rob Brydon, don’t you think.
I really like this whole campaign. Great to see attention to craft in all areas. Great line…great expression on the face…great overall idea…solid layout etc. All adds up to a convincing piece of advertising. Makes me want to slow my clients down for a second to take a deep breath and let us get it right. Good stuff.
Apologies, I couldn’t read the copy as I was on my iPhone at the time and just meant it works perfectly with headline only. Now having read it all, Copy is fantastic, too. Well done to all involved. A print ad like this, so wonderfully crafted, is just so much better than most of the wallpaper we are fed these days. Onyas.
