Earth Hour 2011 gears up with 60 second official web film released via Leo Burnett, Chicago
The 60 sec version of the official TVC for Earth Hour 2011 has just been released, this year created by Leo Burnett, Chicago. The spot was shot in January in Sydney by US director Greg Jardin via @radical.media.
From its inception as a single-city initiative – Sydney – in 2007, Earth Hour – which until 2010 was handled out of Leo Burnett, Sydney – has grown into a global symbol of hope and movement for change. Earth Hour 2010 created history as the world’s largest ever voluntary action with people, businesses and governments in 128 countries across every continent coming together to celebrate an unambiguous commitment to the one thing that unites us all – the planet.

How many kilowatts did it take to generate these ads?

What’s the music in the ‘Making Of’? Sweet.
When French environmental client ‘Alliance pour la Planète’ did the first ever ‘Lights out Eiffel Tower’ campaign in 2006/7 they created a number of great ads around funny things that happen in the dark – these ads were all set in complete darkness, so all you saw was a black screen.
The best execution from the campaign was simply the SFX of a man and women who finish having sex abefore realising that they don’t actually know each other.
The super read “It’s for the good of the planet”
i was told that earth hour started in Bangkok. And was nothing to do with Sampson.
It’s like Trevor Beattie and Wonderbra. John Lennon and Yesterday. It wasn’t there idea. As for the latest offering, I’ve seen it so many times I despair.
3:05pm clearly not a writer (well I hope not). It’s ‘their’ not ‘there’ in the context “It wasn’t there idea”… And Earth Hour was a client idea, executed by the agency.
Excellent music track in the main spot. Beautiful.
Anyone know what the soundtrack to the Swisse Multivitamins is?
I hate it when there’s an awesome soundtrack and I can’t find out the name… Anyone know the one from The Making Of?
I’ve heard it before but can’t put my finger on it….
Mate, the enironment’s fixed.
It’s raining.
Move on.
The SMH had to fake the photos on their front page last time to make it look like there’d been a noticeable change to the Sydney skyline. I expect the same will be necessary again this year.
The whole thing is a meaningless fraud.
Anyway, with the way Governments around Australia have scared power companies away from developing their generating capacity, we’ll all have to start getting used to lots of hours of darkness soon enough.

Does nobody else see the irony in earth hour originating in Sydney…the same city that hosts vivid, a two week festival where the city is lit up for 60 hours?
Time for Earth Hour to evolve into something that’s a bit more meaningful I think. It’s currently little more than an awareness campaign for an issue that already has huge awareness.
Please make Earth Hour GO AWAY!
It’s a wasteful, meaningless, counter-productive wank.
WWF must be having similar feelings as they have started a ‘beyond the hour’ campaign which in Australia includes an awards ceremony to celebrate those doing more than just switching their lights off for 60mins each year. Perhaps to make earth hour more meaningful?

No offense 12:15, but Rolf Harris did it better 40 years ago!
Earth Wank!
