Exit Films’ Christopher Hill directs ‘Free your mind’ music video for Aussie band Cut Copy
Australian band Cut Copy enlisted Exit Films director Christopher Hill to help concept and execute the launch of their track ‘Free your mind’ across multiple mediums.
The band released a music video clip at 10PM 10.10.2013 on their website. The clip, which stars Alexander Skarsgard, was shot on location in Los Angeles.
In the clip, we follow an omnipotent cult leader (Skarsgard) as he takes a routine inspection tour through his picturesque country commune where his disciples are training in various experimental therapy techniques. At first, commune life looks to be carefree and serene but as the video progresses it’s revealed that perhaps everything isn’t as harmonious as Skarsgard may like it to be.
The track was originally released via social media. Fans were given instruction on the band’s Facebook page, “A new song has made it’s way into the world, and six global locations have just been revealed. We invite you to journey to one of these locations, open http://cutcopy.net/ on your mobile device (enable location services) and FREE YOUR MIND.”
In each of the locations “Free Your Mind” billboards were erected and fans who followed out the instructions were rewarded with the new track streaming to their mobile phone as they stood below the billboard.
The idea is that the locations would be as remote and random as possible. It was an exclusive stunt to get attention and it succeeded in doing that.
