Fin Design + Effects enhances design direction with the appointment of Brendan Savage
Fin Design + Effects has begun 2014 with a major appointment to the design/direction team. Brendan Savage (far left) will be jointly heading the team along with the highly acclaimed Adrian Lawrence (near left).
2013 was a good year for Fin Design+Effects with the design department growing through the efforts of Lawrence who was brought on board in 2012. With Fin’s desire to be a leader in the field of design & animation, Lawrence has pushed and developed the design aesthetics at Fin to complete some truly outstanding work.
Lawrence brought with him a vast amount of talent from years working abroad in North America, the UK and Germany for acclaimed studios such as Nexus Productions, Sehsucht and I love Dust where his artistic sensibility flourished.
Says Lawrence: “Fin has now based itself as an exceptionally high level design studio with the impetus on design and direction where ideas inspire individual briefs that stand out from the rest.”
With the design department producing inspiring work such as the recent animated commercials for Challenger, the new year looks to be even brighter as Savage has now joined the team.
Savage is one of the industry’s most respected design directors and comes with an impressive portfolio that spreads across both the commercial and film. He has worked with some of the region’s top production companies including Revolver, Goodoil, The Sweet Shop, Plaza, Finch, Exit, Curious and the Feds. Many of his projects have gone on to win awards at AWARD Awards, Clio and New York Festivals. His film portfolio includes concept and art direction for the Ridley Scott feature ‘Prometheus’ and Marvel Studios ‘Thor’ and ‘The Avengers’.
Says Savage: “While recently working with the guys at Fin, I realised why I’ve always admired their work from afar. Year after year they are consistently at the top of their game, with a passion for producing world class work. Great 3D… great flame artists… and with Adrian Lawrence already creating inspiring design work, it seemed the perfect fit for me to want to join Fin.”
Both Savage and Lawrence have developed and executed design and branding solutions across commercials, feature films, games and TV broadcasting. The pair lead projects through the different stages from initial concept through to production whilst maintaining a strong visual sensibility.
Says Emma Daines, Fin owner and managing director: “Strong visuals is important at Fin. We want it to be key to the projects we attract and the talent that wishes to collaborate with us. With Brendan joining us, his experience and accomplished skill set can only add to what Fin can creatively offer our clients.”

One of the ‘friggin’ best! Smart move Brendan, smart move Fin!
Grand move.
This is why design talent can’t thrive in AU. Brendan is an amazing designer, but has now worked for just about every major post house in AU. He deserves it, but what about the up-and-comers? Seems VFX houses in AU always wants to hire either the biggest fish in the pond (Brendan) or the fish from England/America/Wherever, rather than looking to the local talent that already exists here. Same goes for Directors. Why are we working with directors from UK/US when there are enough good ones here? Why do people in AU believe that overseas talent is “better”?
Nice move, Brendo!
Australia has some of the most talented artist in the world. Unfortunately there isn’t enough seats (studios) to go around, so the talent pool in Australia is very small. All the talented vfx artist / Directors across all disciplines, have had to leave this blessed country of ours at some stage in there career. I’m sure if your good enough you too will get a job. And after a while you will realise what Australia offers is only a drop in the ocean.
Up and comers don’t get roles offered to them like Brendan did. And if your running a business; you want the best.
Bravo Brendan and good move Fin
The Silver Fox conquers another Design house!
Go well young man, you are this town’s leading talent.
Big Fish, you might want to get your facts straight first…something whiffs here.
