In New Zealand even rubbish work looks good

Rubbish is never going to disappear, but Colenso BBDO, Auckland found a way to make it beautiful.
The agency turned the ordinary rubbish bag into a bushy hedge, which formed garden beds when placed curbside.
The ‘Beautify your City’ campaign was created to make Auckland a more beautiful city.
They prevented illegal dumping by placing flowerbeds on targeted areas and educated businesses, with a kit delivered by council ambassadors.
With every business in the CBD receiving the bags, Auckland’s city streets transformed overnight.

before: stacked haphazardly
after: stacked neatly
but still love the idea
Certainly makes the streets look nicer, which is ideal with the rugby world cup coming up! Simple yet effective idea.
I love how the green rubbish bags are so perfectly round and identical in size. People not only were happy to use the green bags, but also co ordinate so they all looked consistent.
Filthy fucking kiwis. We use bins in Australia – yes, bins.
Strange how the exact same cars are parked in the background of both shots despite being on different days.
I’d look at that before entering it in award shows.

This is great!
Some campaigns deserve to be copied.
I hope this idea is picked up in other countries.
Fellow bloggers, admit it, this is a very good idea.
Nice, but hardly original… Not sure it’s prevented dumping.

onya kia n zoe! great work!
What an absolute scam … the idea relies on the bags being perfectly lined up. When does that ever happen in the real world? Oh yeah – that’s right, when the creatives are taking a photo of their idea to scam some awards. Sad.
Since when are garbage bags ever lined up neatly between palm trees on a main street?
They are usually leaning up against a wall, in back alleys, or strewn around the place spilling their contents.
An absolute scam.
You’ve got love a country where this would probably make the 6:00 news.
THIS IS SO DESPERATE.
AREN’T ALMOST ALL GARBAGE BAGS GREEN?
WHY IS IT WHEN THESE NORMAL GREEN GARBAGE BAGS ARE BESIDE THE ROAD THAT THEY DON’T LOOK LIKE A DARK GREEN HEDGE!
They should have just painted the road and trees and everything around it to look like garbage, and then the existing rubbish strewn all over the place would have blended in perfectly.
It would be more fun to make the bags look like coconuts, then they could hang them from the palm trees.
