Droga5 New York appointed advertising agency of record for Heineken Newcastle Brown Ale brand
Heineken USA, America’s leading upscale beer importer, today announced its selection of majority Aussie-owned Droga5 New York as the advertising agency of record for its Newcastle Brown Ale brand.
Droga5’s responsibilities for Newcastle Brown Ale will include strategic and creative development to support brand growth in the U.S.
Says David Droga (below left), founder and creative chairman Droga5: “Newcastle Brown Ale is a quality beer that doesn’t take itself too seriously, from a client with a big mandate and a history of investing in good work. This is a huge opportunity in my book.”
Droga5 will immediately assume responsibility for advertising, including digital, for Newcastle Brown Ale. This is the second brand in the Heineken USA portfolio that is currently working with Droga5; the agency also became AOR for Amstel Light in December.
Says Colin Westcott-Pitt, vice president marketing, Newcastle Brown Ale, Heineken USA: “We’re thrilled that Newcastle Brown Ale will benefit from Droga’s industry-leading creative and strategic thinking,” “The brand is poised for growth and we have a unique opportunity to educate new consumers through a fresh campaign.”

Brown is beautiful.
Come on Lynchy.
No one disputes that DrogaNY is amazing. But you don’t have to report on every bit of news that happens there. They are not an Australian agency and operate in a different market. Their Sydney office fair enough but you don’t need to rubs their NY office in our faces.
@12.11 – this does a great job in offsetting the impending ‘Droga$4.99’ tag via Woolies win though.
As CB points out, Droga5 New York is a majority Aussie-owned agency, so I imagine that’s why it’s on the radar.
Giving an NYC agency a brand like Newcastle Brown is as much of a travesty as when the CBA took their account to Goodbys.
except that commbank is an Australian – used company and Brown ale is internationally consumed.
I’m sorry, but Newcastle Brown Ale resembles a watered down, stale, not-originating-from-anyone-particularly-exciting-in-the-first-place, urinary excretion.
Beer drinker you must be kidding.
Newky brown is a great beer.
The bitchiness is getting really f’n boring.
There’s rarely an interesting point made on this thing these days. The tall poppy syndrome lives on in this country. Winning Woolies should have been celebrated but instead it was just another opportunity to bag a win by more tall poppies.
I love the fact that the big massive accounts are now looking to smaller independent creatively driven agencies. Rather than the big, boring, no answer, compromise is our middle name, agencies like Ogilvy. Don’t discount D5 (yep, see what I did there).
Between these guys and 3DM, they’re slowly paving the way for smarts to be taking ownership of an otherwise boring ass industry where nothing much has been happening.
Now if only we can start to see Colman Rasic start to pull in some big players.
Best of luck to all the smaller I depend ants. Put the big boring bastards out to pasture. Please.
But awah man, I bet the big feller loves it, eh?
