The Sweet Shop’s Steve Ayson, Clemenger BBDO and Nimble prepare you for the unexpected
The Sweet Shop’s Steve Ayson strikes comedy gold again, this time with a series of outrageous and charming spots for smart little loan company Nimble and agency Clemenger BBDO Brisbane.
In his inimitably dry style, Ayson’s taken three unexpected situations including heavily pregnant men shopping for cots, tiny naked Germans having a sauna in a car engine bay, and a couple of duplicitous blokes dressed up as a pet dog, and added typically oddball street casting with beautifully crafted performances to create a uniquely quirky, and utterly memorable series of brilliant spots.
Says Ayson: “The dream brief was fairly nuts to begin with, and the scripts super funny, which gave us a rare opportunity to concentrate on pushing the boat way out in terms of casting, performance, and art direction.”
Adds Wilf Sweetland, The Sweet Shop’s managing director : “It is such a delight to watch Steve work. His level of craft and collaboration with the Agency is extraordinary and continues to amaze. Scripts like these are highly prized and Steve has done a brilliant job.”
Ayson is used to making spots that people talk about for weeks if not months afterwards, and these three beauties will be no exception.

I wish I’d done these.
V. good.
These are absolutely incredibly awesome. Steve Ayson, you are a god.
Flawless casting and execution… Very funny
Absolutely brilliant. Best ads of the year. Ayson is king.
Lovely stuff.
Top shelf.
Genius. Well done all.
Come on guys. They are irrelevant. They include really forced dialogue – including the product. They’re totally borrowed interest and give me no, no, no, knowledge about the products.
Also pregnant men? Done in the 70’s eh?
Lovely spots guys. Love the talent and execution.
Very good
@Pleased I didn’t. Heed, beck in!
Love the talent, sensational, scripts are a bit so, so, nIce direction.
brilliant! just goes to show they know their brand and have clear vision on how to deliver it. Great ads come from great briefs. Great briefs come from great Brand people that know why their brands exist! A lot of credit goes to the Ad guys (and duly so for pulling it together) but lets not forget the Brand Builders who engage the agencies. Good collaborative work all around I say.
Awesome casting. Great writing. “Why don’t you tell me what that means!”
I like these, they’re funny
Pregnant guy: I think you’re being a little harsh
Very nice Staal and Harvey. Very nice indeed.
Love this campaign guys. Nice one Cristian and Marianne.
Brisbane claiming NZ work…..and Colenso no less…..brilliant Steal & Havey

More likely to be watched than the usual talking heads for loan/insurance/finance company ads on the box.
The two German blokes in the sauna one is excellent.
Well done to the full list of credits involved. This is an awesome example of what happens when a host of brilliant minds collaborate to create great work. Love them!
Love, love, love the Nimble Ad with the two German guys, very clever, most of the catch phrases from that Ad are now an office staple resulting in peals of laughter every time, in fact many of us know it by heart, the other two were not nearly as funny.
“Don’t you say things…..” LOL!
