George Patts Y&R Sydney markets Virgin Atlantic Upper Class the Australian way: with a drink
How do you give movers and shakers a taste of the Virgin Atlantic Upper Class? By creating “The Upper Class Virgin”, a signature cocktail launched this week by George Patterson Y&R Sydney at one of Sydney’s most exclusive bars.
Creatives Alex Wadelton and David Ponce de Leon said the idea came about because Virgin Atlantic Upper Class has the most exclusive bar in the world: “How many other bars see you enter in Sydney and leave in Hong Kong or London, are 37,000 feet high and cost upwards of $8000 to get into? So we thought what better way to get to our target, who have the flash and cash to afford a ticket, than by giving them a taste of what Virgin Atlantic have to offer, on the ground where they mingle. The drink was served with compliments of Richard Branson.”
Says GPY&R Sydney executive creative director Julian Watt: “We’re excited by this idea, that it is part of everyone’s life and doesn’t sit within ‘advertising’ space.”
Belinda Gurd, Virgin Atlantic marketing executive, said the Upper Class Virgin will roll out across Sydney cocktail bar menus in the coming months: “We’ll also be taking the initiative globally and offer it on board Virgin Atlantic flights.”

“up your bum!”
Nice works boys. Really nice.
Nice one J.
Sounds like an idea suits would come up with … not really that intersting. The shpiel is better than the idea.
Watch out world.
Seriously, what a load.
Really nice idea. Great work Alex.
must have drunk a few to build up the courage to present that as an idea.
I’m gonna get me one of those mmmmm looks good.
It takes serious balls for an agency to present, and a client to buy, interesting non traditional work like this.
It takes no balls to write negative comments anonymously.
I think this is a great, simple idea. Like it says, it moves beyond traditional advertising space which is why it’s so good. No doubt it will get some media coverage.
Christ, its not that good.
Good idea, perfect for it’s brand. Well done.
Clearly created by people who do not fly ‘up the front’. You must be joking.
“We’re excited by this idea, that it is part of everyone’s life…”
Ok….then.
You need to sell a LOT of these kind of ideas to pay wages…
Another classic piece of advertising dribble. Seriously, you guys get paid for this!
Will they serve lower class virgins at the back of the bus?
Very tasty!
Let it sit for a while. I think it’s a great idea with a crap press release. See how long it takes before westies start asking for an upper class virgin with a quick fuck chaser.
My guess with summer coming up, not long.
Great lateral thinking in here. Spot on for the brand. Well done boys.
OMG the knockers on this site are sad.
It’s a very neat idea to get the message across in an environment where they serve drinks and where the target audience are. What do the knockers want???? It’s not an earth shattering idea but how many are??
Nice work guys and just ignore the sour puss posters here. They would find something wrong with a Cannes Grand Prix winner believe me.
