Schweppes Mineral Water has a fancy food fight in its latest campaign via GPY&R Melbourne
Last night, Schweppes released the final piece in a new campaign for Schweppes Mineral Waters via GPY&R Melbourne.
The Schweppes Mineral Water ‘Fancy Food Fight’ saw Schweppes team up with the award winning 3-hatted chef Martin Benn, of Sydney’s Sepia restaurant, to create an extraordinary event – Australia’s first ever fine-dining food fight.
Says Ben Goss, Schweppes group marketing manager: “Our ads have always had a sense of grownup fun, but this year we wanted to create an event where people could experience it for themselves.”
With just 70 seats available at the exclusive event, the campaign had a soft launch in early February with a ticket promotion going out to their 91,000 strong social media following.
In the lead up to the main event, a series of online teasers were released showing Martin Benn and his team experimenting and testing various dishes as they worked to create a menu designed specifically to be thrown. Other than tasting great and matching with the Mineral Water flavours, the dishes were also judged on their range, accuracy, fire rate and ‘splat-ability’.
The Fancy Food Fight took place on 24th February when the excited diners arrived at Carriageworks in Sydney Throughout the event seven courses were served, each more delicious and destructive than the last, to a delighted group of diners who ate, drank and threw their meals at one another while the cameras rolled.
Says Evan Roberts, GPY&R Melbourne creative director: “It was important for us to not only create an event that people would enjoy, but also produce a piece of film that was a notch above the usual documentary style. Hats off to Will O’Rourke and Glue, they’ve really raised the bar with this one.”

… And a percentage of the proceeds of each bottle will go to starving families around the world
While it has a sense of grownup fun, it actually feels quite wasteful and decadent and self-absorbed. Makes me not want to drink Schweppes.
well at least it reminded me of the brilliant flying octopus in this:

I’ve been waiting for Schweppes to do one of these things for real – looks like heaps of fun.
IN THE FAAAAAAAACCCCCEEEE!!!!
Always good when a brand lets people experience what a product promises and shoot a great bit of film at the same time. Everyone is winning here so well done!
Not many brands deliver premium experiences in this category.
Nice to see it done well.
Yes. Well done.
It’s good because it’s a real thing with real people – not just another ad.
Jealous.
I’ve seen Schweppes mineral water spray over someone like that at least once every meeting.

3:48: Did you really just compare this to the Bacon ad?
Ha! You’re really trying to polish this food fight turd of a spot.
Bacon is great for Bacon. Next Schweppes.
We did the same idea for Virgin Mobile in 2001.
Tired line aka ‘idea’.
Tired execution.
Burst was a lot better, this looks like pseudo golden shower porn.
If that’s what your target market are into, great. Well done.
Just saw this ad at movies last night. It made me sick seeing all that food thrown around. So Self-indulgent. I’m n
