Sportsbet invites Cricket fans to ‘Pommel the Poms’ in a new campaign via Loud&Clear
Sportsbet.com.au is inviting Aussie Cricket tragics to ‘Hit the Poms in The Crown Jewels’ as part of a new campaign from Loud&Clear.
Playing on the already fierce Ashes rivalry, the digital campaign gives Australians the chance to sledge the Barmy Army from the comfort of their couch and perhaps win $10,000.
Fans are invited to post their best insult through the Sportsbet Pommel website, Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag #pommel.
Online contestants will then be provided with a ball, to hurl at the giant piñata shaped like a cricket box, bejewelled with the English flag. If their ball is the one that destroys the piñata, they will win the $10,000 prize.
Sledging poms has historically been the privilege of Australian cricketers, who are known for bowling exceptional pearlers.
Who can forget legendary Aussie paceman Dennis Lillee telling portly Mike Gatting to “Move out of the way. I can’t see the stumps.” Or Merv Hughes’ advice to Robin Smith: “If you turn the bat over you’ll get the instructions mate”.
Loud&Clear head of content, Joel Beath said the live campaign will launch on the NRL Footy Show, after that other great rivalry – State of Origin 3.
Says Beath: “The campaign will commence on Monday, July 6 and will run through the first test or when the Piñata breaks, whatever comes first.”
Pommelling of the box will be aired live during these sessions: 10am – 1pm, 1.30pm – 4.30pm, 5pm – 9pm and 9.30pm – midnight.
