Top US director Bobby Farrelly wraps up filming new Jeep spot via CumminsRoss Melbourne
Bobby Farrelly (left), the celebrated American screenwriter, director and producer of 11 movies including There’s Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber and Shallow Hal, has just wrapped up filming in Centennial Park exclusively for Jeep Australia, where he had been shooting the new Jeep Compass commercial via CumminsRoss, Melbourne.
After seeing the script prepared by Jason Ross and Steve Callen of CumminsRoss in 2012, Farrelly was very interested in the job.
Says Farrelly: “I wanted to jump on board with this the moment I picked up the script, it made me laugh and I really enjoyed the sense of humour.”
The commercial features the same woman and dog from the original Jeep Compass commercial, “Every dog has its Jeep“, which was first aired in 2012 to critical acclaim, which saw the dog sabotage the owner’s relationship, so it could spend more time with the owner in the family Jeep.
The next instalment, “Every dog has its Jeep, too,” sees the dog’s antics result in the pair being kicked out of a dog obedience school after the owner takes a liking to the new trainer.
The cast features a ‘who’s who’ of Australian sport, TV and entertainment including St George Illawarra Dragons lock Dean Young, Australian basketball player Liz Cambage, Miss Universe Australia 2007 Kimberley Busteed and actress Holly Brisley, all joining the acclaimed Farrelly on set.
Director of marketing, Fiat Chrysler Group Australia, Sam Tabart is thrilled with the serious coup.
Says Tabart: “After the success of ‘Every dog has its Jeep’, the second instalment needed to be bigger and better, and what better way to do this by enlisting one of the entertainment industry’s biggest names.
“We want audiences to continue to see, hear and talk about this Jeep Compass series long after it’s gone from the nation’s TV screens, and having the calibre of Bobby Farrelly directing it will no doubt achieve this.”
The line up of Australian talent is also an exciting addition to the TVC.
Says Tabart: “Bobby should feel right at home given his history of casting sports stars in cameo appearances.”
The “Every dog has its Jeep, too” TVC will be aired nationally in quarter two of 2013.

Critical acclaim? The first ad was incomprehensible crap.
Cant believe Bobby has sold out to Cummins.
“I wanted to jump on board the moment I saw the script”. Sure you did…..$$$$$
Can’t wait to read about what he orders for lunch during post.
What the hell is going on with Jeep and with Cummins. The marketing and advertising is all over the place. No strategy. No consistency. I have no idea what this brand is about or why I should consider buying one of their cars. Guys, it’s not that hard.
more CRAP out of CR for a CAR
Great that they can call in and afford the Hollywood Director for this one. What does he charge?
Is it just me or is it strange how the “client” never seems to have any money when getting people in this town to make their ads for next to nothing. What rubbish and bullshit.
Always a dangerous thing – playing up an ad before anyone sees it.
What ever happened to letting it speak for itself?
The PR about the shoot is OTT but Jeep sales are up over 80% and still climbing. If that’s ‘no idea’s’ idea of no idea, then ‘no idea’ has no idea!
Typical Jeep ad…
PERSON A: I bought a Jeep.
PERSON B: You bought a Jeep?
PERSON A: I bought a Jeep.
PERSON B: (mutters) He bought a Jeep.
etc etc etc.
Just the sort of script you need a Hollywood director for.
