Tourism Tasmania kicks off winter promotion via Jim Jam with giant game of musical seats to give away hundreds of return flights to Tassie
Tourism Tasmania has kicked off its latest promotion via Jim Jam, Sydney with the “Cheeky Half Million Dollar Seat Giveaway” event held last Friday.
The front lawn of the MCA at Circular Quay, Sydney was transformed into a gigantic game of ‘musical seats’ where participants battled it out to win return Qantas flights for two to Tasmania this winter. With the harbour as the backdrop, the big reveal from Tourism Tasmania was that every participant was awarded return flights even if they weren’t lucky enough to snag a seat.
DJ entertainment was provided to the crowds and energetic TV personality, David Whitehall kept the momentum going, emceeing the event.
Tassie continues to delight and surprise visitors with a winter calendar full of quirky events and festivals including festivals, whacky lightshows, AFL games, all things chocolate to wild music and a nude swim.
Visitors to Tasmania this winter will be treated to an experience like no other.
Says John Fitzgerald, Tourism Tasmania’s chief executive officer: “Tassie has some really cool events this winter. Not only do we want more people to know about the many great things to do here at that time of the year, but we want them to come down and discover for themselves why we’re developing a reputation as a great year-round travel destination for a break or longer stay.
“I can’t think of a better way to come and try us out this winter, than to play the game and win a couple of free airline seats. What have you got to lose?”
One of the most anticipated events of Tassie’s winter calendar is MONA’s Dark Mofo Festival, which returns in June to celebrate the winter solstice through large-scale public art, food, music light and noise.
Other highlights include Tasmania’s other landmark cultural event, the Festival of Voices, as well as the wickedly delicious and unique Chocolate Winterfest devoted to all things chocolate, AFL games with the Hawthorn Tassie Hawks and North Melbourne, and all the action and flavours of the weekend markets throughout the state.
Mainland Australians now have the opportunity to win one of thousands of return flights for two to Tasmania this winter by entering online.

So this has already happened, where was the promotion of this event? Fun and quirky? What is the relevance to Tasmania in terms of the event itself? Seems like a first thought to me.
Missed it:
Statistics have shown that when 76% of 18-35yr olds think of musical chairs, a winter vacation in Tasmania comes to mind and is ranked 2nd in terms of thought relevancy, right behind 8 year old birthday parties.
seriously?
I was actually down there and won a ticket.
It was a good day, not a bad promo for a simple seat giveaway.
Heard it went gangbusters, ok idea.
Silly stuff in a good way
The webpage associated with this giveaway provides itineraries but Tasmania’s wonderful Huon Valley is sadly forgotten. If you have won one of the flights, or are planning to buy your own flight, please consider visiting the Huon Valley and Far South. Just Google “Huon Valley Escapes”.
See you soon in Tassie,
Paul D
