Volkswagen launches Volksfest Mates Rates with a new multi-channel campaign via DDB Sydney
Volkswagen Group Australia and DDB Sydney have launched a new retail campaign, Volksfest Mate Rates, to highlight the car brand’s annual Spring sale.
The unexpected campaign sees Volkswagen leverage another Spring milestone – the Koala mating season – to put the spotlight on a range of driveaway deals. To mark these occasions, Volksfest in 2014 is all about mate rates and will be on until two of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s cuddly koalas, Trevor and Irene, make a family or November 30 arrives – whichever comes first.
Says Ben Wilks, Volkswagen general manager, marketing: “Our retail offers are an important part of our business and this year we challenged DDB Sydney to get Australians talking about these offers in a new and engaging way.
“The Volksfest Mate Rates activity absolutely does this. We’re thrilled with the campaign and wish Trevor and Irene the best during their courtship – hopefully we’ll be able to welcome a new member to the Volkswagen family soon!”
Says Toby Talbot, chief creative officer, DDB Sydney: “It’s one of those fine moments when agency, client and wildlife come together perfectly to create a pretty unique retail approach.”
Led by a series of TVCs, Volksfest Mate Rates is supported through digital, radio and social.

That is hilarious…
Funny
Dear. What’s happened to Volkswagen? This is like a bad 90’s Traktor rip off.
…remember when volkswagen used to be good? that confidence thing ad then this… oh my.
I like them, interesting idea.
Strange, funny. Like it.
Good spot. Light years ahead of the Polo crap and a genuinely funny idea.
This is so bizarre… Love it.
I don’t ever remember Volkswagen being good in Australia. This must have been done overseas.
Actually pretty good. At least this one make sense.
Ol’ Billy Bernbach would be turning over in his grave.
good work Ben & Matt, a genuinely funny spot.
that is seriously woeful.
Same campaign for Volkswagen….. By DDB, done overseas, 2 years ago.

Yeah weird but will earn some column inches for sure. Good job
I think I just wee’d myself a little…
So that would make it a campaign then?
Very funny – and let’s not forget this is for a dirty-retail spring sale brief.
Definitely ‘down and dirty’. Absolute classic.
TV’s ok, but the digital live feed is a crack up.
Not sure I’m with the haters, but this definitely should win an award for ‘best use of koala in a retail car spot’. Will also work it’s socks off in regional Australia.
I cannot believe that yet again so much money and time is spent on an ad featuring car, koala and musicians where yet again you got a detail so obviously wrong! The sax mouthpiece is completely round the wrong way! When are you going to book a muso to play a muso or at least train an actor to get it right for goodness sake? Good grief!
