This year’s competition is the biggest yet, with the introduction of two brand new categories, Film sponsored by Foxtel and Young Marketer sponsored by CBA and Telstra in association with the AANA (Australian Association of National Advertisers).

2012 has also been a record year for participation with entries up by 18% across all categories.

The next stage in the competition will see the shortlisted finalists in the Marketing, Media, Print and Digital categories compete in a 24-hour brief, with finalists from the Film category completing a 48-hour brief, all simulating the Cannes competition format.

Media and Young Marketer finalists will also receive a one day high impact presentation skills program conducted by Metta Group, designed to develop each presenter’s individual style.

Two winners will then be selected from each category to receive return flights to Nice,

accommodation and registration to the festival and access to all the seminars, awards ceremonies, creative showcases and the Young Lions party.

News Limited’s director of sales Tony Kendall said the scope and quality of this year’s work had been exceptional.

Says Kendall: “This is the pointy end of the Australian competition, and I’d like to thank everyone for an unprecedented number of top quality submissions. Every entrant is a credit to the agencies they work for, and I wish the best of luck to those remaining in the 24 hour challenge.”

Young Lions Judge, and Universal McCann CEO, Mat Baxter said the standard of entries this year was outstanding.

Says Baxter: “The Young Lions has clearly established itself as the most hotly contested media competition in Australia. Anyone watching the finalists’ presentations would be enormously confident that the future of our industry is in great hands.”

The winners will be announced at a cocktail event held at News Limited on Thursday May 17th.
