Art Series Hotels claims a world first with latest project ‘The Overstay Checkout’ backed by new campaign via Naked Communications Melbourne
Naked Communications Melbourne and Art Series Hotels has introduced their latest project ‘The Overstay Checkout’.
In a nutshell the ‘Overstay Checkout’ is a new product, claimed to be a world first, offered by The Art Series Hotels. You don’t check out until someone checks in.
Why do hotels force you to check out at 11:00am when your room is empty the next night? Ask for a late check out and you may get it, it may be for a few hours, or even overnight – completely free – it all depends on when the next guests are set to arrive.
Says Will Deague, Art Series CEO: “We think hotels keeping the rooms vacant is a bit of a waste. If people are not using them, why not let guests stay longer – even if it’s a few days! Naked have developed a genuine product innovation we’re extremely excited by. We’re rolling it out over summer – and then we’ll see how we go, with the aim to introduce the product during quiet times of the year”.
Says Adam Ferrier, founder of Naked Communications: “Having to check out by 11.00am is not very cool, especially if no one else needs the room. We’ve worked with Art Series to rejig the whole thing – and we are really excited to announce the Overstay Checkout. The hotel in effect is giving away something of value to the consumer – late check outs and free overnight stays, whilst at the same time it doesn’t cost the hotel anything as its all unsold inventory.”
The Overstay Checkout operates between December 16th to January 13th, and is open to anyone staying at the hotel. However, if coming from interstate you may want to book flexible flights because you could be staying a night or two extra on us – if there’s room.
Visit the website, follow on Twitter @overstaycheckout or like it on Facebook at facebook.com/artserieshotels.
The Overstay Checkout follows on from last summer’s successful ‘Steal Banksy’ campaign (winning two Gold Effies, Gold Cannes Lion, ADMA Grand Prix, and three MFA’s).

Superb.
This must be one of the most fun accounts in the business. Another cracking idea
Gold.
So the idea is doing what a bunch of hotels already do?
Hi Say what? where have you heard about this before? Interesting? Seems like a great idea – people not having to check out and staying on and on for free until their room is needed. Be interested if you’ve heard about it before. Or are you bitter?
The great thing about steal banksy was it was linked to an inherent truth about the art world – the theft of ideas or of art itself.
This idea could be done by any hotel, anywhere. Given Naked’s strategic pedigree I’m amazed this got out the door.
Fantastic.
You’re right, this is nothing to do with art. it would be a good idea for any hotel. Which still makes it a good idea.
Correct, a good idea, not a great idea.
Hotels let you stay if you want…so what’s new???? I don’t get it at all…ok they don’t let you stay a day but you can always stay late if you ask..what is soo new????????…you cannot be serious.
Hi ‘yeah butt’ I’m guessing things aren’t going that well for you at the moment.
Love this.
I think it’s a great idea, even if it’s got nothing to do with art. Not everyone stays at the Art Series for the art. They’re a boutique hotel chain, so it fits the brand. Perhaps the world first claims aren’t necessary. It just invites criticism.
Seriously good will win the hearts of clients true innovation that doesn’t cost
Bums on seats, bods in beds. This is a great business idea. This is a reason to stay at this hotel over any other.
And even if someone is not paying for a room, they are likely to eat a meal, use the mini-bar, go to the bar and otherwise spend money at the hotel.
Yeah, you ‘can’ get this from other hotels, if you ask, if you negotiate a little, if you are the sort who likes to negotiate etc. A lot of people are a bit shy and would prefer not to have to ask. Terrific idea.
Nice idea. I just wonder how long the poor sod who checks in will have to wait for their room to be cleaned, sheets to be changed etc.
I wouldn’t stay there for that reason – when I’ve been squashed like a sardine into the back row of economy for 17 hours, I want a shower, shave and a power nap asap.
nice to see this out guys.
Sweet as.
