The new ‘Down Down’ price cuts will be launched today with the newest advertising campaign featuring legendary rock band Status Quo and a fresh take on their 1979 hit ‘Whatever you Want’. The band has recorded a new version especially for Coles played using the now infamous custom made ‘red hand’ guitars.
The new version of ‘Whatever you Want’ features the greatest hits of Coles’ ‘Down Down’ campaign with lyrics subsitituted to include some of the most popular items for families such as bread, milk and cheese.
The original ‘Down Down’ campaign launched in 2010 featuring a parody of the song of the same name. Whatever you Want’ is the follow up hit from Status Quo for Coles and is set to hit Australian radio and television airwaves from March 6.

It’s bad enough we cop this at home, do we need to keep promoing Coles crap here?
It might work its arse off, but it ain’t worth celebrating.
This was an ad for Argos in the UK about 10 years ago.
Imagine the discussion in some artist management company in London. “You won’t believe it. That f-ckin’ supermarket at the arse end of the world wants to use them AGAIN!!!”
I’ve had an epiphany!
Until now I’ve been writing songs about love, angst, death and resurrection. What a nob I have been. As from now I’m going to write ambiguous vanilla ice-cream dad-rock pap, with themes that can easily re-purposed 40 years hence by cynical farmer-screwing retail giants for their tired-as-fuck ad campaigns, thus insuring my pension!
I’m off to the beach 🙂
Commenting on this thread only encourages Ted.
Wonder if Teddy shops at Coles, reckon with the bucks he makes churning this out he hasn’t been been inside one for years… that’s whats annoying!
Look this stuff may be annoying as hell, but at least when they Quo are used it means that Ted won’t be singing on his own ads like that no freshness jingle.
OMG RFLMFAO
Billy Guyatts wore it better.
this is a bad ad and you should feel bad.
yes, it’s an annoyingly bad ad. but at least it has the self awareness to acknowledge that and take the piss out of itself at the end. that makes me smile. and yes, i’m sure this ad works its ass off.
The sad fact is that there is very little being done in Australia at the moment which challenges this kind of banal crap. It’s frankly taken advertising back to pre Bernbach days.
The days of the maverick client approving brave work are long gone, instead a bunch of boring little MBA box tickers lead us to this sort of plop.
If I had the option I wouldn’t shop at Coles as a matter of principle. But its the only store for miles.
Ka-Ching!!!
You ad guys make me chuckle. You seem to think that what you do is important. It’s just advertising and the public don’t really care.
If you are truly so precious about quality them make a movie or write a novel.
